Since its invention in the early 1980à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s the internet has served millions of people around the world. It has been so good that the world is now known as a global village. Interaction between people thousands of miles apart has become like that of next door neighbours. Sharing of documents and passing of information is fast and efficient. Companies have grown through it and people are even getting their degrees and Masters Certificates online (Phillips and Swiler 71). With all this fairy tale like wonders of the internet the question still remains, is the internet as good as it sounds?Which one is more dangerous? The increased use of the internet by the youth and humans in general or the reduction in overall drinking age. To help get to the bottom of the issue a review of both issues is necessary. Internet content and use has both psychological and physical effects to the user. On the other h and however, drinking causes both effects too. The dilemma remains whether to curb and regulate internet use or to curb drinking age.Type an address URL on the internet and the page you want shows up on the screen in a matter of seconds. What is displayed on that LCD screen is not always constructive. The internet exposes the youth to various dangers. They include: destructive pornographic material, unorthodox mind control sites, it deprives one of all social ability and last but not least, it creates a virtual world that makes it difficult for one to cope with the outside world. Expounding on each issue will help bring a more vivid picture.Pornography! It is any form of imagery, including photos, videos and reading material that contains un-educational sexual content (Mesch 56). What is to stop a seven year old child that is computer and web literate from coming across such content deliberately or accidentally? The truth is that there is no way of completely monitoring viewing of s uch material. If a child were to come across this material it is almost definite that they will be scared for life (Mesch 58). So, the question still lingers, pornography or drinking age?There has been a rise of cults and immoral religious sites on the internet. Teenagers while still on their exploration mode look for foundations to lead their lives with (Mesch 62). A teenagerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s best source of advice is the search engine on the internet. Again, what is to stop a child from joining such sites and getting corrupted psychologically. This wrong moulding will be the foundation of their life ahead.
